Water Filter. Do you really need one?

Many people have started using water filters. They are scared of what exactly is in their tap water and rightfully so. Unfortunately as time has gone on, the water quality in most places has decreased. This has made water filters a booming industry.

When choosing a water filter you have a whole host of decisions to make. Ultimately though you need to decide what works best for you. I know some people who have had to use water filters to soften the water because it was hurting their skin. Others have installed them solely for the purpose of higher quality drinking water.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you do some real research on water filters ahead of time. One of the more common types of water filters are a carbon based or charcoal system. It tends to weed out the bad such as bacteria, but still allow minerals to permeate through. It is very important to make sure your water has minerals in it. Water filters that take out all the minerals are essentially useless. Recent studies have put distilled water into that category. I would recommend you never use distilled water as your primary source of drinking water.

It’s a fact that bottled water has become all the rage in the U.S. However the truth is that bottled water is usually no better for you than regular tap water. In some places it will benefit you, but for the most part a water filter is not always needed. It usually won’t hurt unless it’s removing minerals from the water, but it’s not necessary.

As I’ve stated, if you’re going to use a water filter for your everyday drinking water, just make sure it’s not distilling the water. Other than that, I would go with the one that you believe tastes the best. You can usually find some good deals on water filters online. Ebay or amazon are good sources. Just make sure you calculate shipping too when comparing the store item to an online water filter purchase. Thanks and Best of luck to you in your search for a great water filter!
